“CONNECTED, NO INTERNET”, WINDOWS MOBILE HOTSPOT

Windows mobile hotspot can be very handy for sharing your computers internet connection with other devices. But in some cases it may not work as expected. the problem might be that the device you’re trying to share your internet connection connects but says “no internet”, or is stuck on “obtaining IP address”.

Today I’ll share with you simple steps that can help you sort the issue.

the problem can be caused by simple things such as outdated network drivers. It’s always a good habit to keep your drivers updated. you can update them by opening the device manager and checking to to see if the network adapters are up to date.

updating the network adapters

Sometimes this may not work and you may end up thinking you have the latest drivers, I highly recommend using Driver Easy, it will automatically check for driver updates for your computer.

If updating the drivers doesn’t work, try trouble shooting to get the scope of the error. This can help you do a quick search online.

Another solution might be resetting your network settings. Doing a network reset uninstalls and reinstalls the network adapters. This works in most cases. To do this just type, ‘network reset on your’ search box on the taskbar.

Next is changing your network sharing options, if all the above methods don’t work. You can do this by, opening the mobile hotspot settings and > change adapter options, notice the adapters that show up when the hotspot is off. Now turn on the hotspot and refresh the network connections. note the name of the new network that shows up after you turn on your hotspot. right click on the wifi ethernet of whichever network you want to share, and click on properties, this should open up another window.

Now click on sharing, click allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection and select your network connection, which should be the one noted earlier on.

In some cases, all the above may not work. installing a third party software like and especially Connectify Hotspot will always help, after setting up and running it once, I tried turning on my hotspot and sure enough, it worked. I realized my issue must have been with the IP address.
